Sightseeing in Amalfi

Cathedrale di Sant'Andrea: Climb the steps and you will be rewarded by the imposing sight of the Cattedrale di Sant'Andrea, dominating Piazza del Duomo. The cathedral dates back to the early 10th century, although its distinctive façade has been rebuilt twice, more recently at the end of the 19th century.

Museo della Carta:

This fascinating museum is housed in a 13th-century paper mill, considered to be the oldest in Europe. Displays here include the original paper presses, which are still in full working order.

Arsenale

This art gallery was the town’s main shipbuilding depot at the time when Amalfi was a maritime republic. Today, it is used to host temporary art exhibitions.

Regatta of the Four Ancient Maritime Republics

The regatta rotates between Amalfi, Pisa, Venice, and Genoa, and is held on the first Sunday in June in Amalfi.

Dining in Amalfi

The Amalfi region is very fertile and the climate is ideal for growing citrus fruits and so you’ll find a large variety oranges, lemons, olives and grapes. Tomatoes, lemons, fresh vegetables, red peppers are richly used in the local dishes. There is a wide choice of sea food available and each chef has his own specialty and variations.

Pasta and pizza play a substantial part in Italian recipes, but there are many regional specialties you can sample in Amalfi. These gastronomical delights are best enjoyed by the sea, where you’ll find a wide range of budget and high-end restaurants.

In terms of tipping, service charges and state taxes are included in all high end restaurant bills. It is customary to give up to 10% in addition if service has been particularly good.

Entertainment and nightlife in Amalfi

Amalfi boasts a fair share of open air cafes and nightclubs where the young and hip crowds hang out and dance to lively music. The more mature can head to the wine bars that offer soothing jazz. Besides there are live classical concerts to be enjoyed. Tourists who visit Amalfi during the summer can take part in the annual Sorrento Summer of Music or the Wagner Music Festival, which showcases brilliant performances from both recognized and upcoming musicians.
